Workshop: Parents and kiddos co-create

Ever dreamed of writing a story with your favorite little person? Welcome to “Kids and Parents Co-Create,” a workshop designed to turn your living room brainstorming sessions into a true team sport. This isn’t just about homework; it’s about building a shared world together. We’ll play “What If” games, build character profiles from scratch, and create wild story maps. Whether you’re collaborating like the pairs behind Found Sound (Meg Wolitzer and Charlie Panek), or following the collaborative creative spirit found in recent gems like Oasis (Guojing) or the partnerships in The Cartoonists Club (Raina Telgemeier and Scott McCloud), you’ll leave with a story—and a memory—that’s all your own.

Attendees will learn to:

  • Develop a collaborative storytelling “rhythm” that values every voice in the room.
  • Brainstorm plot twists and character quirks using fun, low-pressure creative prompts.
  • Transform a simple idea into a structured narrative arc with a beginning, middle, and end.
  • Overcome “writer’s block” by using shared drawing, play, and conversation as entry points.
  • Cultivate a lifelong habit of creative connection that makes writing a joyful, togetherness experience.
